Mission Statement

It is the mission of the Effingham County Emergency Management Agency (EEMA) to reduce the loss of life and property from all hazards by leading, coordinating, and supporting the community in a comprehensive, risk-based emergency management program of Planning, Mitigation, Preparedness, Response, and Recovery.

Natural Hazards

There are many natural hazards that may impact the communities in Effingham County. These include:
  • Floods
  • Hurricanes
  • Lightning
  • Severe thunderstorms
  • Tornadoes
  • Wild fires
  • Winter storms
These are dangerous and often unpredictable events. It is very important that citizens know the safety precautions to take before an emergency and what actions to take during an emergency, whether natural or caused by man. In addition to the many natural hazards that may impact the county, there are other man-made and technological hazards that pose an equal, if not greater, threat to the citizens.

Stay Weather Aware

Advance warning is the most powerful preparedness tool for severe weather. Every family should have one or more methods for receiving severe weather alerts, and at least one of these should have an audible alert to wake you in case the alert comes in the middle of the night.
