Directions: On GA Hwy 119 between Hwy 21 and Laurel St.
If coming down Hwy 21 from Rincon: Turn right at red light
at Hwy119, then turn into 1st driveway on right and go up hill and branch left.

If coming down Hwy 21 from Screven: Turn left at red light at Hwy119, then turn into 1st driveway on right and go up hill and branch left.

If coming down Hwy 119 from Guyton: Go through red light at Hwy21 and turn into 1st driveway on right and go up hill and branch left.




What We Do

The Animal Control Department enforces the county ordinances and enforces the
leash law of Effingham County. We also provide care for abandoned and impounded animals.

Does Effingham County have a leash law?
Yes, the leash law states all dogs and cats must be contained at all times either on a leash or behind a fence.

Should I move an injured animal?
No because there is a good possibility that the animal will bite you.

 
Is my dog or cat required to receive a rabies vaccination?
State and county law mandate all pets be vaccinated.

How old should my dog or cat be to receive a rabies vaccination?
Between 3-4 months old, depending on your vet.

Why is my dog or cat being quarantined for 10 days for biting or scratching a person?
So that he or she may be observed to make sure it shows no signs of rabies.

What are the signs of rabies?
Unusual aggression
Impaired locomotion and swallowing
Paralysis-usually
in hind legs or throat
Excessive salivation
Avoidance of food, water
Extreme depression
Bizarre behavior such as no fear of humans by wild animals
or daylight activity by nocturnal species
