Our Mission Statement

The mission of the Effingham County GIS Department is to provide, facilitate, train, and promote the use of professional Geographic Information Systems to the citizens and administration of Effingham County in order to increase efficiency and productivity.  It is our mission to provide community decision-making support services as a one-stop, easy to use system for all county agencies and citizens in order to protect public health, safety, and welfare.

 What We Do

GIS is a tool that allows you to plug in geographic, social, economic, political, and environmental digital information to answer practical questions.  In conjunction with other departments, the GIS department strives to find a solution to better fit the needs of Effingham County Citizens.

In coordination with other departments, the GIS department maintains and updates the following.

  • Property Lines
  • Roads
  • Fire Districts
  • Voting Districts and Precincts
  • Waste Water Lines
  • Police districts and patrol areas
  • School Districts
  • Stream and River Lines
  • EMS Units
  • Railroads
  • County Boundaries

We also provide Wetland and Flood Zone information obtained from FEMA and the National Wetlands Inventory. These are some of the responsibilities and objectives of the GIS Department.
