What We Do

The Elections and Registration Office is responsible for assuring all citizens of Effingham County who wish to participate in the democratic process are properly registered and understand the process to follow to cast their vote.  It is our mission to assist all citizens in the elections and registration process; conduct accurate, fair, and honest elections; and maintain registration and election records.

We Have An App For That!

Citizens wishing to participate in the elections process must be registered to vote by the deadline indicated for each election. Voter registration forms can be obtained at the Elections and Registration Office or citizens can register to vote online. The Secretary of State's Office now offers an App "GA Votes" that you can download from your Android or iPhone App Store.

This app allows you to:
-Register you to vote 
-Update your address and/or name 
-Get directions to your polling place

Absentee Ballots by Mail may be requested 180 days prior to each election.  Ballots will be mailed not less than 45 days prior to each election.

Mail-In Absentee Voting
Not more than 180 days prior to the date of the Primary or General Election, or Runoff of either, voters may request to receive a mail-in absentee ballot. Voters can request an absentee ballot from the Board of Elections and Registration Office or click on the following link for a printable Absentee Ballot Application . A request for an absentee ballot application may be submitted by mail, telephone, fax, or in person at Elections and Registration Office. 

All requests must be received by the close of business on the Friday prior to each election. Absentee ballots must be returned to our office at 284 GA Highway 119 South, Springfield, Georgia, by the close of polls on Election Day. Photo identification is not required when voting by mail.

Board Meeting Notice

The Effingham County Board of Elections and Registration will hold its regular monthly meeting the second Monday of each month beginning at 8:30 am. The public is invited to attend.

Directions to our Office Minimize

From Rincon:

Take GA Highway 21 North to GA Highway 119 South.  Take a right at traffic light on GA Highway119 South.  We are located in the second building on the left.  Turn left into the first driveway off GA Highway 119 South.  Enter the building through the front door, and we are located in the first office on the right.    

From Guyton: 

Take GA Highway 119 South toward Springfield.  Continue on GA Highway 119 South through the traffic light.  We  are located in the second building on the left.  Turn left into the first driveway off GA Highway 119 South.   Enter the building through the front door, and we are located in the first office on the right.

From Shawnee-Clyo:

Take GA Highway 21 South to GA Highway 119 South.  Take a left on GA Highway 119 South.  We are located in the second building on the left.  Turn left into the first driveway off GA Highway 119 South.   Enter the building through the front door, and we are located in the first office on the right.

Effective January 1, 2014 all New Candidates and Candidates up for election this year will be required to file an additional CCDR on March 31, 2014 if they intend to spend or receive contributions or expenditures with a combined total of $5,000 or more with the County Election Superintendent.
